Before GPS there was the Routefinder:

I don't know if any of these handy little devices were made in
America but this example showed 1920s drivers in England the
route they needed to drive between major cities.

Fitting inside a wrist watch-looking strap, the maps are wound
around tiny scrolls and show the distance from one destination to another.
The The navigator turns the little knobs to scroll through the map.

And we thought scrolling was new technology!
