One of my guilty pleasures is reading about celebrity fashion.
Yes, I'm so shallow that I'm practically a puddle.

It's common knowledge that most of the gorgeous gowns that
actresses wear are loaned to them by designers.  Talk about cost savings.

But what happens when the same ensemble is loaned to two different celebrities?

Although Zoe Saldana, left, and Paris Hilton, right, wore the
same dress, they changed the look by wearing different accessories.

Vanessa Williams, left, and Eva Longoria, right,
look equally amazing in this sequined cream puff.

Source
Jenny McCarthy, left, and Eva Mendes, right,
rocked the same one-shoulder tent dress.

Now
Jada Pinkett-Smith, left, and Kristen Dunst, right, look sweet
in this little metallic number but I'm not a fan of the black hose.

Victoria Beckham, left, was photographed wearing a grey peplum dress from her own clothing line.  Months later she loaned it to model Elle Macphearson, right.

Do celebrities occasionally "forget to return" the designer duds loaned to them?

Elle recently wore the same dress and open-toed pumps
to two separate events that were months apart.

The beautiful black gown that Sophia Loren wore to the 2010 Golden Globes
is the same gown she wore a year earlier to a Pirelli Calendar launch.

Jerry Hall, formerly Mrs. Mick Jagger, sported a classic Chanel
ensemble in 2009, left, and again in 2012, right.

In 2009, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark (I'd never heard of her, either) broke out a royal purple gown that she had worn in New York in 2005.

Earlier this year Oscar-winner Helen Mirren appeared
in a gown that she wore back in 2008.  This is just one of the
many reason why I love this woman!

Helena Bonham Carter is known for her talents as
an actress as well as her quirky sense of style:
In 2006 she wore an original Vivienne Westwood dress to the Cannes
Film Festival.  Five years later she wore the same dress to a Oscar party.

It's refreshing when celebrities openly admit their thrifty ways.

Actress Zooey Deschanel is very vocal
about her love of used vintage clothing.
An admitted economizer, Zooey proudly proclaims her
love of thrift stores and credits her frugal ways to her early days
as a struggling young actor in Hollywood.

Jada Pinkett Smith and daughter, Willow, often
frequent thrift shops in Santa Monica, CA.

Country superstar Carrie Underwood, left, and actress Kristen Bell,
right, proudly proclaim their joy in clipping coupons.  Now that
both are pregnant they'll be looking for Pampers coupons.

Model and talk show host Tyra Banks revealed to Bank Tracker that when she relocated her production company to a new facility this year she didn't like the carpet in the building.  After finding out how much it would cost to replace the carpet she decided to repaint the walls to match the carpet that was there - gorgeous and smart!

Celebrities have the opportunity to use their fame as a platform for good causes.  Leading by their examples of thrift and saving is a public relations tool that, in the end, is thrifty and saves them money, too.

  1. I know that there is nothing wrong in buying from thrift stores but for some reason my parents would not let me buy clothes, mattresses and sofas. Any thing else was fine.

  4. Those of us who are from 'Down Under' know who Princess Mary is. As Susan said, very interesting to read about her and her family. And I think Anonymous must be a proud Aussie :) I'm a Kiwi.
I enjoyed this post, very interesting and I too like to see what the stars are wearing.
